How to use the Reviewer.ly OJS plugin

The Reviewer.ly plugin integrates directly into your Open Journal Systems (OJS) workflow to help you quickly identify and assign relevant reviewers.

Before you begin, ensure the plugin is installed and activated. You can follow our installation guide here.

Start by initiating your journal’s standard submission workflow.

When the submission reaches the peer review stage, Reviewer.ly adds a powerful layer to your process by providing AI-powered reviewer suggestions based on the article. Here’s how to access and use those suggestions.

1. Open the Add Reviewer dialog

In the Submissions workflow, go to the Review tab. If the submission is ready for peer review, scroll to the Reviewers section and click on the “Add Reviewer” button to open the selection window.

2. Access reviewer recommendations from Reviewer.ly

In the Add Reviewer dialog, click the “Reviewers from Reviewer.ly” button in the bottom right-hand corner.

This will display a curated list of potential reviewers matched to the article’s title and abstract.

To view more details about a reviewer, such as their most relevant articles or research areas, click the arrow next to their name, or click the hyperlink to open their full profile on Reviewer.ly. The details may take a moment to load.

3. Select a reviewer

To choose a reviewer, click the “Select Reviewer” button next to their name. This will pre-fill the Create New Reviewer form with any available information, including a username suggestion, affiliations (if any) and reviewing interests.

Complete any remaining fields, then click the “Add Reviewer” button at the bottom of the form to finalize your selection.

Once added, the reviewer will appear in your submission workflow, just like any manually added reviewer, only with less effort on your part.
